I don’t know if you would’ve noticed, but it’s been fairly wet down here in the Riverina (south-western NSW, Australia). We’ve had an amazing break to the long severe drought. LIke the great Australian poetess (Dorothea Mackellar) once wrote, “I love a sunburnt country …. Of droughts and flooding rains”. We live in perhaps the most remarkable place on earth, a land so harsh and yet so beautiful. Only a few weeks ago, the river peaked, at around 7 metres (or just below), late last week the mighty ‘bidgee’ rose to just under 9 metres (wow). I spent a few hours last Sunday afternoon capturing a few pictures of the river. It’s amazing to think how powerful and destructive the floodwaters have been. The street where I live usually floods in the most minor circumstances, but on this occasion it didn’t. According to the local SES (State Emergency Service) the river’s flood behaviour has been unlike anything in recorded history.
